The Measure of a Good Man The Designer of Beauty, the Keeper of My Heart

As I write these final words, looking out at the North Carolina sky, I am struck by a
profound sense of completion. For 59 years, I have been a seeker—searching for a
sense of belonging, searching for a way to make sense of the heavy lifting of
caregiving, and searching for the courage to finally accept that I am worthy of the
life I now lead.
The journey has been long, often winding, and sometimes steep. But if this
manuscript has taught me anything, it is that there are no wasted miles. Every
chapter, from the honors-filled academic halls of my youth to the quiet, reflective
years in Goldsboro, was a step toward this moment. I have learned that the "Amen"
we seek at the end of our prayers is not an ending; it is a seal on the truth that we
have been heard, held, and loved all along.
I am forever grateful. Grateful for the resilience that kept me moving when the
nights were dark; grateful for the wisdom that allowed me to transition from
caregiver to creator; and, most of all, grateful for the grace that brought Terrill into
my life on that winter day in 2023. I have arrived at a place of peace, and I step
forward into the future knowing that the best stories are those written with an open
heart. The page may turn, but the love that fills this life remains.
