Tom was a normal cat, a big tortoise shell who grew up in the village of Clereford Thwaite and acted like he owned it. Tom thought he knew all of the villages secrets - the back way into the Faemot Arms’ brew house, the hidden paths around Potmere, and the troll under Clarent Bridge. Then Tom got involved in a battle in the woods between an unseelie scout and a seelie wizard, defending a young human girl. For his actions, he was named ‘Sir Screech of Clareford Thwate’ and magically charged with defending the village. The magic made him bigger and smarter than he had been. Then he got to meet the troll and found out that she was under a similar enchantment and that the world was bigger and stranger than Sir Screech had ever thought…
