My Writing Journey
Hello, everyone!
My name is Jessa, and I am from the Philippines.
Growing up, I had a hard time expressing myself, especially whenever my parents scolded me for doing something wrong or something they didn’t like. I didn’t have many friends because I wasn’t allowed to go out of the house very often, so I had no one to talk to or share my thoughts and frustrations with.
Even with my own siblings—my older sisters and brothers—I couldn’t open up to them because we grew up not being very close to one another.
The only ones I could always turn to were my notebook, my pen, and God. Sometimes, I would even write my thoughts and frustrations about life on scratch paper. Those were the little things that gave me a way to express everything I kept inside.
Fast-forward to the years that followed, and I found myself becoming fond of reading books. Honestly, no one at home taught me how to read. I learned on my own through determination and self-effort. I really worked hard to teach myself how to read and write.
When I was in Grade 8, I developed a love for reading stories. I remember spending so much time reading on the Wattpad app because I had grown fond of novels. One of my classmates also inspired me to explore this interest further.
As the days went by, I discovered something about myself: I could write poems! I started writing poems in both English and Tagalog. And once again, my notebook—my very own best friend—became the witness to all the words and emotions I put on paper.
Now, because I love reading novels and writing poems, I started thinking, Why not create something of my own and publish it?
But I wanted to create something more than just a collection of poems. I wanted to make something that would encourage readers to write down their own thoughts, feelings, and personal struggles—the things they carry with them every single day but sometimes find difficult to express.
And that was how I came up with my e-book, “Resilience in Verse.”
If you’re interested, you can check it out on my profile. It’s affordable, and it might just give you a space to release the emotions you’ve been keeping inside.
Because sometimes, all we need is a little space to let our feelings out—and sometimes, that space can be found in words.
