Red is thirty-five, unemployed, and addicted to methamphetamine. Once a cab driver with a semblance of stability, he has gradually sacrificed his job, relationships, and future to drugs. When he receives a subsidized apartment, he turns it into the center of a growing meth operation, surrounded by addicts, dealers, alcohol, and casual sex.

Red’s relationship with Kristy, another addict, is less romance than mutually destructive partnership. Together with Echo, a former inmate and experienced dealer, Red discovers that his computer skills and street instincts make him surprisingly effective at running the operation. Money and drugs begin flowing, and Red convinces himself that he has found a way to make addiction work for him.

Then he meets Treena.
