There is something fitting about beginning here with a book about becoming.
I’m L. James Bechtel, author, poet, and creative. My work explores the places where life gets complicated: grief, identity, resilience, creativity, loss, and what happens when we decide to keep becoming anyway.
Today, I’m introducing the 2nd Edition of The Grieving Creative: A Literary Companion Through Loss and Becoming.
This book grew from a simple truth:
Grief is love with nowhere to go.
Now it has somewhere.
The Grieving Creative brings together poetry, reflection, creative exercises, and space for personal discovery. It was written not to tell anyone how to grieve, but to sit beside them while they find their own language for it.
The second edition represents something important to me. A book, like its author, does not have to remain exactly as it began. We learn. We revise. We become.
So this feels like the right place to begin my journey on Written.
