For a long time, I thought accountability meant being hard on myself.
What it really meant was stopping the explanations.
I had blamed circumstances, people, bad luck, fear, and every other thing around me. But eventually I had to look honestly at what my life had become and the part I had played in it.
That was not the end of hope. It was the beginning of it.
When I stopped explaining my life away, I could finally take one honest step forward.
