If you love a good historical fiction story with plenty of bullets, dames and bootleg whisky, then you'll wanna check this one out, schweet-heart!
For shopgirl Slender McNally, it's not the exhilarating life she seeks. In the aftermath of a tragedy, Slender struggles to keep her family together and her deli afloat. Her mother, rarely present, is consumed nightly with speakeasies while her sister, an aspiring stage actress, is fixated only on becoming a star. But when a routine accounting trip leads Slender to check on an unsettled debt, things begin to really rev and roar. She unknowingly gets swept up by the mysterious Joey the Mouse as he whisks her off to the hottest speakeasy around--The Sudsbucket, operated by celebrated gangster Soapy Callahan.
But what Joey doesn't tell her that first night is that he has already pulled her into the middle of a turf war and has a plan for her whether she likes it or not...because Soapy Callahan is expanding his bootlegging empire and he wants Slender's deli. And the boss gets what he wants.
Recalling such classics as The Great Gatsby as well as elements of Dick Tracy, and filled with an ensemble of colorful characters, Calling Shots is a fast-paced romp through the beloved streets of New York City during one of the most captivating times in history--The Roaring Twenties.
